Advanced cycle lights - they're only activated if a bike is detected, otherwise the lights go to green for motor vehicles at once.
Cyclist bravely ignoring the Footway Closed Ahead sign, which does refer to cycling as well - there's quite a detour to the left due to works on the Fen Causeway crossing.
New crossing - someone at the county council really wanted pedestrians to keep left and go right around Lammas Land while cyclists would keep right and take the direct diagonal. This did not survive contact with reality.
Cycle Lane Closed - cyclists are presumably meant to cross the road and wait at the temporary lights to get through the roadworks. Not very helpful.
Letter to residents illustrating the disjuncture and confusion between Cambridgeshire County Council and the Greater Cambridge Partnership
Big new footway build-out on the left, with Driftway no longer aligned directly with the Barton Road
Crossing and new segregated route into Cambridge - pedestrians to the left, cyclists to the right (in theory - I think)
Two new pedestrian/cycleways under construction - and a barrier moved to allow passage over the bank holiday weekend rather than having to cross the main road twice.
Construction of a wider cycleway/greenway - at the moment all cyclists and pedestrians have to cross the main road twice to get past.
Alternating traffic flows through roadworks - very long phases, and no real provision for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road - just wait till the cars stop and rush across. But it looks as if there'll be a better cycleway when it's … [more]
Huge pothole. Any chance of it being fixed while they're working nearby on Barton Road? I'll ask but I doubt it.
Notification from the county council for the roadworks on Barton Road, Newnham, where space has been taken from the road to provide more space for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as a new crossing (presumably part of the Greenways … [more]
Cyclists Dismount sign at the start of roadworks on Barton Road, Newnham - this section of Grantchester Street has been closed to allow the use of two-way rather than three-way temporary lights, and as a storage compound .

The west end of Herschel Road is in a terrible state, and reporting it to the county council achieves nothing. It's a through route for cyclists towards West Cambridge and Eddington.
It's all happening here - after these City Fibre works, Cambridge Water is going to close Grantchester St (and Bateman St too) for a couple of days.
Following the attempt to use temporary lights (#189852 and #189853) they've given up - not ideal for the walk to school.
Local traffic chaos due to parked cars blocking cars trying to pass queuing cars. Also no lights on Chedworth St, one light for both Grantchester St and Eltisley Avenue.

Interesting story... I reported this pothole to the county highways department, they denied it was anything to do with them and they didn't know who owned the road (despite leading to a public car park), but the city confirmed it was a … [more]
There are two new potholes on the Driftway - a major cycle route but not a through road, so we'll see how long it takes to get them fixed.
I reported this on the county highways web form in February - 'It's a hole that you occasionally fix but it keeps coming back, perhaps because vehicles are turning. Please do it properly!' and received a reply in June - 'We are pleased to … [more]
Not easy to see, but one sign reads Roadworks from 27/4 for 4 days, the other reads Roadworks from 29/4 for 3 days - and they're both still there well into May.
What I kept telling councillors and officers was one of the most abused ASLs in Cambridge has been repainted at last, along with the whole junction.
A clear need for cycle stands in place of a car-parking space. Submitted to the Cambridge parking consultation, let's see what happens.
New fencing for two houses, new cycle stands for one - the nearest of the four available spaces won't get much use, I predict - if only they'd put them in at a slight angle.
New cycle parking at Newnham's Co-op - and Don't Park in the Garden signs - this was until recently a low box hedge which people often leant their bikes on. So there may well be problems here.
People might think that this refers to parking at the entrance to Grantchester Meadows, but no, it refers to South Green Road, the private close to the right.
There was talk of parking being banned here (except for disabled blue badge holders?) but nothing has happened.
Yet again, someone has had a brilliantly original idea for free advertising, in a rather anti-social location. How long will it last?
A letter to Newnham residents from the Lib Den councillors - the petition against removing car parking at the start of Grantchester Meadows will be considered by the county council, so there will be no changes before 27 July.
Car parking at the north end of Grantchester Meadows, proposed for closure - since the introduction of parking restrictions in Newnham Croft, and the growth in van-living, the numbers of vehicles here have gone up. There's a clear need for … [more]
Car parking at the north end of Grantchester Meadows, proposed for closure - it used to be that the road surface was terrible here, and that vehicles tended to only park at the far end - but since the introduction of parking restrictions in … [more]
Notice of the county council's plans to close the car parking at the north end of Grantchester Meadows, and a petition against it.
This stretch of the fen has been flooded for over a month - there's a free-flowing stream to the right but somehow the cycle path seems to be an impermeable barrier to drainage.
