Out today talking bollards, 198 to be precise within a half mile stretch. No wonder it was in excess of £40k.

These staggered bollards are a much better solution than the gate that previously occupied this position, but the gravel surface combined with the steep slope makes passing through them a dangerous prospect. The new gravel surface should … [more]

A fairly smooth unbounded track through the forestry at Dunsyston, avoiding a busier road through Gartness on the way to Chapelhall. But could equally go on towards Salsburgh.

Forest of bollards. Good luck trying to get your bike through here on this 'national cycle route', much less a tricycle or adapted cycle of any sort. Typical masochistic 'infrastructure' brought to you by Sustrans.

Think I interrupted a dance off between these bollards... Similar in Cambridge see: #9156

Sandy forest path, difficult biking but passable.

Beautiful forest path but sandy -- passable, but a bit rough going with panniers on.

Beautiful forest. Path a bit rough, sometimes sandy.

The forest of no entry signs along St Philip's Road. It is two way for cycling - predating legislation that permits 'Except cycles', and so instead there are cycle bypasses.

Karlsruhe's Technical University (KIT) is to the east of Karlsruhe's central castle and right between the city centre and the forest. Many students cycle through the forest (Hard Wald) to get to their student accomodation.

Hatfield Forest - Early autumn morning. Great destination if you're a photographer - deer, woodland, lots of small mammals and Ryanair Boeings. Unless you look up you'd never know you were a mile from the Stansted Runway.

Hatfield Forest - The Lake. Good kiosk-style Cafe close by - decently priced brekkies & hot snacks, drinks. Not quite as up-market as many National Trust places and all the better for it ...

Interesting and perhaps clever use of bollards to slow down cyclists at a busy entrance to the Sedgwick Site from West Road. You can still cycle through but have to wiggle, which slows you down enough, but not too much to be a pain. But … [more]
