The route sign here says NCN74 turns left down Bridge Street, but there is another sign further down Bridge Street that refers to route (74) meaning that the road leads to route 74 and isn't itself route 74. There are other signs for 74 further along the A724, as well as some for (74).
The sign cannot be seen when approaching the junction on the road, so can easily be missed.
There is no indication as to whether the cycle route is on the road or the footway. The toucan crossing suggests the footway is shared, but cycle lanes further down Bridge Street suggest it is on the road.
A number of primary schools are signed along this route, suggesting they think this cycle route along the A724 is perfectly fine for young children to use.
