August 2013 "Castle Independent" newsletter from Cllr John Hipkin.
Text:
Dutch style cycleways on the Huntingdon Road?
Cambridgeshire County Council has been successful in getting £4.1 million of funding as part of the Department for Transport Cycle City Ambition programme. Cambridge was one of eight cities to be included. The programme seeks to implement the very best in cycling infrastructure, to raise numbers who cycle and to improve safety and perceived safety.
One of the three schemes in Cambridge will look at Huntingdon Road to see if a Dutch style segregated lane in the citybound direction can be accommodated.
To develop a satisfactory design will require lots of work and engagement with local residents, businesses and other establishments, to ascertain their needs in terms of deliveries, access and parking, and also their concerns about how the scheme will look, drainage arrangements, details at bus stops and so on.
Please keep a lookout for consultation documents hitting your doormat in the next few weeks and do go to the trouble of letting County officials know your views when the time comes.
All good wishes
Cllr John Hipkin
