Yes, I'm human, I made a mistake. However, no one was hurt and both parties went their ways smiling. An apology IS important!
However, perhaps it's important to look why I was rushing to get out of the road space. With a car right behind me I did not want to stop to wait for the car coming along the road. And that oncoming car was doing a considerable speed approaching a local shopping area with large numbers of walkers and nearby school children.
And perhaps the design of this junction needs some investigation. I wouldn't be adverse to moving the cycling entrance to the car park next door IF it could be kept clear of parkign cars.
