In the foreground is an ordinary footway (no cycling allowed). The path on the right is Glasgow City Council's flagship Colleges Cycle Route, coming from Strathclyde University, and this then turns and heads up the redetermined footway (cycling is allowed) in the middle of the photo, before crossing North Hanover Street to head towards Glasgow University along Cowcaddens Road, seen in the left background.
Not only does the redetermined section of footway have no signing to say that cycling is allowed, although it fails to meet "Cycling by Design" guidelines, but there is no dropped kerb to allow cyclists not heading along the cycle route to leave the route and join the carriageway. Now Glasgow City Council is preparing to install a pedestrian guard rail which will block this cycle route access point, forcing cyclists heading for the city centre to cycle along the ordinary footway to get around the railing.
