[UPDATE/EXPLANATION: 21.7.22 A reply from the Haxby Town Council Clerk says: "Unfortunately, the table tennis table was vandalised earlier this year and was broken beyond the affordable cost of repair. One of the side tables was removed (we believe that this must have been done by at least 6 people due to the weight) and was left broken on the playing field.
A repair team was requested and attended to look at the table but stated that it would cost far more than the value of the table to have it repaired, this was in part due to the equipment which was required for the heavy lifting. Therefore, the Recreation and Open Spaces committee took the decision to have the table removed from the playing fields, and it was disposed of. A small crane was required to remove this from the playing fields, and the council paid £300 for removal of the table.
We have suffered many incidents of anti-social behaviour throughout the year on the playing fields and this was just another incident that was reported to the Police, but with no further action... ...It is quite disheartening to realise that vandalism is the reason why the table is no longer on the playing fields." But it's been replaced with gym equipment. Other image here today and links: #184354.
