[UPDATE: 15.4.22] Saw both barriers have been removed again. None lying around this time. [Image taken 28.3.22] Haxby Cycleway, New Earswick, Huntington/Haxby/York. [Note: No street view at this location.] The barrier is now on the 'downhill' side. I don't understand the fixation with putting in obstructions on cycle routes. It limits the sociable nature of the routes and makes me feel as if active travellers somehow need to be controlled or restrained. However, there is a steep incline beyond the barrier - you can see the because the person is out of the saddle. So if one has to remain, it should be, as here now, on the downhill not the uphill side. However, someone being able to ride uphill without stopping relies on downhill users to recognise they have gravity on their side and should give way (and make it clear they are going to do so) to the oncoming uphill user before the rider/scooter user/runner has to slow or stop.
