[UPDATE: 15.4.22] Saw both barriers have been removed again. [UPDATE: 21.3.22 The removal was all too temporary: #180450.] [Image taken 19.3.22] Haxby Cycleway, New Earswick, Huntington/Haxby/York. [Note: No street view at this location.] I rode along here around 24 hours earlier. And had, as usual, to navigate one of those sheep pen chicanes where the 'gates' are too close together and the space to corner is overly tight for comfort or safety. There was no reason to expect anything would have changed on my next visit. But, the obstruction (definitely a barrier to some cycles, some users and a disincentive to others to use this very handy, though noisy, route) alongside the ring road has gone. Another rider I spoke to said they were still there the previous evening ie after I'd gone through. So they must have been taken out this morning. City of York Council (CYC) says there are over 750 barriers around the city. You read that right. Campaigners and route users (on cycles, in wheelchairs, as well as the operator of a delivery company that uses cargo cycles - see: #175323) have been lobbying, collectively and individually to get them removed.
