[Image taken 17.10.21] York railway station, York. [NOTE: No streetview at this location.] Hurrah! At last the two underpasses have imagery in them. The photos are of places along the LNER route. Several years ago I did a walk around with an LNER manager. This was his workplace, plus he was male, taller and younger than me. So I knew how I felt about these subterranean spaces would be different to his impressions. I found them unsettling and intimidating and the colour, lighting and materials on the walls made me feel as if I were walking to/from a morgue. I suggested LNER contact the College to ask students to create designs to make these long echoey corridors feel less intimidating. Or run a competition that customers/station users could enter. Here’s an image I took in one of the two underpasses recently hoping the posters might be indicative of more positive designs to follow: #173823. Other examples of good practice at the station: #175230 and #173837.
