[Image taken 22.5.21] Rougier Street, York. Under the TSAR scheme (see also: #169160) pedestrian lights have been replaced with 'same side' ones. I believe they are not appropriate for locations where there are large numbers of people crossing such as here. They are also inappropriate for the crossing to the right of this location (Station Road/Lendal Bridge). The people crossing may be in wheelchairs, mobility scooters, have wheeled luggage, dependants they are holding the hand of, pushchairs, shopping in bags, dogs, cycles... They are therefore not more numerous but they also take up much more lateral space which puts some beyond the lights (as in this image). The people who cannot see the lights may cross when they think it is safe to do so or if they see others doing so - despite not having seen a green light for themselves.
