[Image taken 19.3.21] ASL on Rougier Street, York where it joins Lendal gyratory at Station Road. The two-way cycle cut-through between Rougier Street and Tanner's Moat is to the right. The cyclist has come from Tanner's Moat and is heading for Lendal Bridge (Station Road/Museum Street).
'Becoming a pedestrian' is the only safe way to reach Lendal bridge from both Rougier Street and Tanner's Moat. (The other option is to go all the way around the gyratory.) This cyclist has bumped up the kerb to reach the pavement ie got off the bike and pushed it on the pavement to reach the pedestrian crossing. This gets you over Station Road to the carriageway enabling you to continue your journey by cycle via Lendal Bridge (direction of the Minster). People with large, wide or heavy cycles, with children onboard and/or cyclists with health and mobility issues may not be able to do this. They must use the drop kerb in the narrow cycle cut-through. Which puts them and all bona fide (cyclists and pedestrians) at risk. See #166027 for many issues relating to the Tanner's Moat cycle cut-through.
